Job Interview Follow Up TipsNever get discouraged if you think the interview went badly. You never truly know the interviewer’s opinion of you or your qualifications, so don’t unnecessarily burn bridges. It’s a good idea to write a follow up email or card a few days later expressing your gratification for the opportunity to come in, get acquainted with the company and speak with the interviewer. If you don’t hear back for several days call and inquire as to how the application process is progressing. Don’t be overbearing, just reiterate how much you enjoyed coming in and how enthusiastic you are about the position. You probably won’t get the yes or no answer you’re looking for, but you’ll keep your name in their minds to reinforce their interest in you as an employee.
While some employers promptly notify job candidates of their status, others never get back to unsuccessful candidates. Don’t take this personally or let it dampen your drive to secure a new job. There were probably many qualified candidates applying for the same position, and selection can seem arbitrary. When you finally land the job you want, you’ll know that all the hard work testing the job market has paid off.
